Former Minister Wellingdon passes away

Palakkad, May 10 (UNI) Former Minister and founder-leader of the Karshaka Thozhilali Party (KTP) B Wellingdon died here today of old age.

He was 78. His wife had died two years ago and the couple had no children.

Wellingdon was under the care of the Sneham Charitable Trust for the last one month.

After graduation, he started his career as a teacher and later entered politics through the Students' Congress. He became an active trade unionist and was an INTUC leader in Kollam. Later, associating with the anti-Communist front in 1956, he was elected president of its Kerala unit. He left the Congress in 1961.

Wellingdon had been elected from Kalpetta and Palluruthy constituencies to the Kerala Assembly and was Health Minister in the E M S Namboodiripad ministry from 1967 to 1969.

He had also served as the General Secretary of the KTP and Secretary of Malanad Karshaka Union. He had also served as editor of 'Thozhilali,' a newspaper published from Thrissur.

The funeral will take place at Kollam on Saturday.
