DMK worker beaten up by gang
Pondicherry, May 10 : In a post-poll incident, a DMK worker was severely beaten up by five men, allegedly AIADMK activists, at Ouppalam, near here, late last night, police today said.
According to police, there was strong belief in the constituency that DMK candidate U C Arumugham would win the elections, following which AIADMK workers were dejected. Irate over this, a group went to the house of one Ramesh, who was canvassing for Mr Arumugham, woke him up and beat him with iron roads and other lethal weapons.
He was later admitted to the Government General Hospital here.
Tension prevailed in the constituency following the incident as Congress workers took to the streets. Heavy police pickets were then posted to prevent any further incident. Senior police officals rushed to the spot and held joint discussions with both candidates U C Arumugham and A Anbazhagan (AIADMK) to restore peace.
