2 devotees run over by temple car
Pudukkottai, May 10 : Two devotees were crushed to death when a temple car ran over them during the annual 'Chithirai Therottam' festival) of Ponvasinathar Temple at Illupur village last evening, police today said.
A large number of people were pulling the 'Ther Vadam' (car rope) when an unidentified devotee in his twenties was accidentally caught under its giant wheels. Nachiappan (45), a villager, attempted to rescue him but was also caught under the wheels. He died on the spot, police said.
The youth was rushed to the Government Hospital at Illupur with serious injuries. However, he succumbed as no doctor was available there to attend on him. Investigation was underway, police added.
