People opposing highway expansion work in Manipur
Imphal, May 09 (UNI) The residents of Singjamei and Moirangkhom in Manipur have been opposing the road expansion work taken up by Manipur government.
The state government has planned to expand National Highway 39 passing through this area.
The local residents had pulled down their own houses to facilitate the expansion work but the government did not fulfil its commitment, the residents complained.
The government compensated the people by giving just Rs 120 per sq ft while the market value was Rs 1500, they said.
''Many families are homeless. However, the government did not provide land for rehabilitation,'' the residents said.
State Public Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam said, ''More space was required for the people. The government was trying to complete the drainage work before the rainy season. The compensation fixed was adequate.'' UNI NS JYN RD AB 1214
