Militant-killed in North Kashmir

Srinagar, May 9 (UNI) Troops killed a militant, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, in an encounter in North Kashmir today, a defence spokesman said.

The troops launched a search operation at Handerwara in the frontier district of Kupwara early this morning following information that militants were hiding there.

Militants opened fire as the troops were sealing the area. The fire was returned and in the exchange a militant identified as Zubair, a resident of Bagpat, Uttar Pradesh was killed. One AK rifle, and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.
