Imphal Municipal election on May 31

Imphal, May 9 (UNI) Elections for the 27 wards of Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) will be held on May 31, the state elecetion department said.

The state Election department has issued an order informing that the last date of filing nomination papers will be May 15. The last date of withdrawal of candidature would be May 18.

At least 20 wards would be from Imphal West and seven from Imphal East. Ten seats would for women candidates, officials said.

Hectic lobbying have already started for the elections.

The rulling Secular Progressive Front (SPF) may have to contest a new regional party, where three opposition parties would be merging under a single symbol.

The political parties are taking this election seriously as the general assembly elections would be held in six to seven months.
