HIV awareness 3,000 kms motorcycle rally concludes
Lucknow, May 9 (UNI) After covering a distance of more than 3,000 kms and several major cities in the Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal, the HIV awareness motorcycle rally -- under the aegis of Uttaranchal and UP NCC -- concluded at the Lucknow Cantonment today.
The rally, organised by NCC Group HQ Lucknow, was flagged off on April 22 from here.
On its return this morning, the rally was received by Brig D N Verma, Deputy Director NCC Directorate (UP and Uttaranchal), Nimal Hettiaratchy, UNICEF UP representative (Lucknow), Col K P S Khati and other senior army officers and state education department officials.
NCC senior division cadets participated in the rally. Lt Col B R Kushwaha, Commanding Officer, 67 UP Battalion NCC led the rally.
He was assisted by Lt Col Satayeder Singh, two Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) and eight Combatants and Civil Staff members.
The rally participants conducted lectures on AIDS awareness at various schools and colleges in rural and urban areas.
The rally aimed at generating awareness about AIDS (Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome), which affects the most productive part of work force.
The largest number of known cases occur within the age group of 18-35 yrs. Hence, the urgent need of the hour is to made youth aware of the ways to combat the growing menace of the disease.
The spirited cadets, besides imbued with sense of adventure and comradeship, were trained by UNICEF to stage roadshows and 'nukkad nataks' throughout UP and Uttaranchal.
The rally was accorded a heroes welcome in every city that fell in route. People from all sections of society enthusiastically supported the cadets in their noble endeavour.
The rally covered Sitapur, Barelly, Shahjahanpur, Dhampur, Haridwar, Dehradun, Roorkee, Meerut, Aligarh, Agra, Etawa, Kanpur, Jhansi, Banda, Allahabad, Varansi and Gorakhpur.
The rallyists were feted here with mementos and merit cerificates by Brig Verma and Dr Hettiaratchy.
