CPI(ML) gen secy Deepankar charged with murder case
Ranchi, May 9 (UNI) A Jharkhand court today framed charges against CPI(ML) national general secretary Deepankar Bhattacharjee regarding violent demonstration in front of assembly house.
The court of additional judicial commissioner R S Bahadur took up the March one, 2001 case, in which six activists of the CPI (ML) including Mr Bhattacharjee had been booked under section 307, 323, 324, 353, 506, 431, 147, 148, 149 and 188.
Demonstration had been staged in protest against police firing at Durenda and Tapkara. Two cases were booked against the six at Jagannathpur police station. However, one the accused died later on.
Addressing a press conference here, state CPI (ML) general secretary Subhendu Sen termed the police action against their leader as an attempt to murder democracy.
Mr Sen at the joint press conference also alleged that the police as per the Jharkhand government's instruction were trying to make the democratic agitation look like criminal activities.
