SC order on Bachchan on expected lines: BJP

New Delhi, May 8: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today described ''as on expected lines Supreme Court's dismissal of the Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan's petition questioning the Presidential order that disqualified her from Rajya Sabha membership for holding office of profit and said nothing should be done to weaken the spirit of the Constitutional makers on the issue.

BJP Spokesman Prakash Javadekar reacting to the order of the Supreme Court by a bench comprising Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal, Mr Justice C K Thakker and Justice R V Raveendran said due procedure was followed before the disqualification and Congress president Sonia Gandhi escaped the similar ignominy by resigning from the offices of profit.

He stressed the Consitutional ruling that a member of parliament should not hold office of profit should not be diluted and the law should be applicable to all.

While demanding the Election Commission must hear each complaint separately, he said the BJP members will face the process of law and will not run away as Ms Gandhi had done.

Ridiculing the congress for hailing her as an icon of 'sacrifice' he said, "she will be back in Parliament before it recommences its session. This is her sacrifice to the nation,".

When it was brought to his notice that over 30 MPs and 200 MLAs faced the disqualification proceedings including the Jharkhand MLAs, the BJP Spokesman emphasised saying "the law treats everyone alike.

BJP wants no dilution of provisions.

He,however defended the Jarkhand MLAs occupying offices of profit, saying they were protected under special law which provided for their appointments without attracting the provisions of disqualification.
