Medico gets 5-year-RI

New Delhi, May 8 (UNI) Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) judge Binod Goyal today sentenced Prem Pal Singh, Chief Medical Officer of Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital, to 5-year-rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine of Rs 12,000.

The CBI had caught PP Singh accepting a bribe red-handed in November 1996 from SP Singh whose son had been operated upon.

PP Singh, working as CMO at Safdarjung Hospital had asked for Rs 1000 for issuing an essentiality certificate for the operation conducted earlier.
