Mumbai, May 8 (UNI) Police have arrested a Malaysian national for allegedly cheating a jeweller here to the tune of Rs 70,000.

The Malaysian has been identified as Khoo Kee Seng (38). Police said the man had approached a jeweller in Vile Parle here on May 5 for purchasing gold ornaments to the tune of Rs 70,000.

The Malaysian had made purchases through credit cards of a private bank.

However, the bank had subsequently notified the jeweller that the credit cards, used for the purchases, were not genuine. The cards had been cleverly forged after cracking the encryption.

The confident cheat visited a neighbouring jeweller the next day following which an alert was sounded and the police notified. The cheat was arrested and five fake credit cards and jewellery worth around Rs three lakh recovered from his possession, a police press note here said.
