Kollywood stars join voters queue in TN polls
Chennai, May 8 (UNI) A large number of film personalities turned out to exercise their franchise in the 12th Assembly elections to Tamil Nadu today.
After a number of stars criss-crossed various parts of the state to campaign for the two Dravidian fronts headed by the ruling AIADMK and the opposition DMK, it was time for the film personalities to show up at the polling booths to exercise their democratic right.
Leading the 'star cast' were AIADMK Supremo and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, herself a popular actress of yesteryears, DMK President M Karunanidhi, who had mesmerised the film buffs and the Tamil people with his punchy dialogues and meaty scripts in several hit films, Tamil superstar Rajnikanth, actor and AIFB state President Karthik and actor-turned-politician Vijaykanth, who is testing his electoral fortunes from Vriddachalam in Cuddalore district.
While Ms Jayalalithaa, Rajnikanth and Karthik cast their votes in Stella Maris College, Mr Karunanidhi exercised his franchise at Saradha School in Gopalapuram in Thousand Lights constituency.
Vijaykanth, who cast his ballot at Saligramam in the city along with his wife, later went to his constituency, where he had a nightmarish experience in one of the villages, in the PMK dominated Vanniyar belt.
When he attempted to enter Muthanai village to monitor the polling process, his convoy was blocked by the villagers, who shouted slogans and turned him away.
