Fresh snowfall at Amarnath cave, Gulmarg has rain
Srinagar, May 8 (UNI) The holy Amarnath cave in south Kashmir experienced fresh snowfall while world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and other plain areas had rains, much to the delight of tourists and locals.
Official sources said the holy Amarnath cave, about 150 km from here in south Kashmir experienced fresh snowfall since early this morning.
About six inches of snowfall was also recorded at Sheshnag, Pissu top and Mahaguns.
However, the world famous ski resort of Gulmarg experienced rains much to the delight of hundreds of tourists.
The ski slopes are still under the cover of about three to four feet of snow.
A tourist official told UNI that hundreds of tourists from different parts of the country are reaching Gulmarg daily.
He said a record number of tourists visited the Gulmarg and Khilanmarg this year.
Srinagar city and its adjoining areas also had light rains today resulting in drop in the temperature after the maximum temperature reached 30.4 degrees yesterday.
A report from Drass said heavy rains lashed the entire Drass and Kargil area.
It was also raining at Sonmarg, Baltal and Zojila on the Sriangar-Leh highway which is still closed since November last year due to heavy snowfall. However, the Border Roads Organisation have almost cleared the snow on the highway to put it through later this week.
