Ajmer: Enraged mob thrash one for damaging Dargah

Ajmer (Rajasthan), May 8: One Mehndi-ul-Hassan was severely thrashed by enraged devotees after he allegedly damaged a part of the 'Gumbad' of Khwaja Moni-ud-din Chishti's 'Dargah'.

According to police, at 1830 hrs, Mumbai resident Hassan entered the Sandal Khana mosque of the 'Dargah' and scaled the roof of main mausoleum's 'Gumbad Sharif' and started damaging it.

Visitors and the staff in the jampacked 'Dargah', when saw this incident, got enraged and brought him (Hassan) down. They thrashed him severely and handed him over to police. Hassan was admitted to J L Nehru Hospital here.

Angry people also damaged the office of Dargah Committee alledging that it has failed to provide adequate security cover to the Dargah.

However, Abdul Salim, the officiating caretaker of the Dargah, said that the accused was of unsound mind.

Police also said Hassan was mentally sick.
