EC says AIADMK, DMK violated code of conduct in ongoing polls

New Delhi, May 8 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) today expressed displeasure to the AIADMK and the DMK for violating the model code of conduct by using a large number of vehicles for campaign meetings in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu.

The EC had issued notices and asked both parties to sumbit explanations by May 5 and 6 respectively.

It said AIADMK leader J. Jayalalithaa used several government and private vehicles. The AIADMK denied violating the model code of conduct.

The DMK said the election meeting was attended by party cadres and alliance parties for which transportation was not arranged by the party. Union minister for communications and information technology Dayanidhi Maran addressed the DMK meeting on May 3.

Meanwhile, the EC reprimanded Rajasthan minister for irrigation Sanwar Mal Jat for violations of standing instructions regarding not to mix official and election-related visits together.

The commission had issued a notice to Mr Sanwar Mal and asked him to explain his official visit to Alwar on April 24, 25, 28 and 30.

He later visited Deeg for electioneering work. Similar explanation was called from state chief secretary and district collector.

The EC said that using red beacon light by the minister was in gross violation of its standing instructions.
