CPI(ML)s ''Chakka Jam'' evokes thin response
Jehanabad, May 8 (UNI) The 12-hour bandh sponsored by the CPI (ML) for revival of Amir Das Commission evoked mixed reaction in Bihar's Jehanabad and Arwal districts today.
The Amir Das Commission was constituted by the previous Lalu-Rabri regime to inquire into the alleged links enjoyed by the private army of landlords, Ranvir Sena with politicians.
Official sources said most of the shops, business establishments, educational institutions, banks and government offices functioned normally and vehicles on the main roads plied as usual. The buses, however, did not ply in the rural areas.
Though 'slogan-shouting' CPI (ML) supporters came out on the road in large numbers to enforce the bandh and put up road blockade in the district town here. The strong posse of armed police accompanying them foiled their bid.
Official sources said the lukewarm response to the bandh call in Arwal was surprising in a sense that the Ranvir Sena had executed two massacres at Laxmanpur-Bathe and Shankarbigha in quick succession in late 90s.
