Braille works beautifully
Chennai, May 8 (UNI) A sizable number of visually impaired voters of R K Nagar and Park Town Assembly constituencies here utilised the Braille system introduced by the election authorities on an experimental basis for the Assembly elections today.
Official sources told UNI the response for the Braille system was impressive, but they could not immediately say how many people utilised the facility These details could be given only tomorrow, the sources added.
As per the directions of the Election Commission, the authorities selected these two constituencies in the city for making available ballot papers in Braille.
All the booths in these two constituencies were provided with dummy Braille ballot sheets in English and Tamil, giving serial number and names of the contesting candidates and names of parties (or independents, as the case may be).
The visually challenged people, after going through the dummy, cast their votes.
