Telangana will be agri hub : CLP

Hyderabad, May 7 (UNI) The Congress-led Andhra Pradesh Government will continue to give priority to the irrigation sector, allocating sufficient funds to the backward Telangana region for making it the 'centre of agriculture activities' in near future, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today said.

In a press release here, CLP Secretary E Pratap Reddy pointed out the government had spent Rs 4,179.25 crore during the year as against Rs 2,822.58 crore on Telangana last year for irrigation projects. making it the highest ever allocation.

Ten mega and medium irrigation projects were under construction with three others in the pipeline in the Telangana region. These projects will increase ayacut in Telangana paving the way for higher agricultural production besides giving boost the allied activities.

The state had received Rs 1,030.38 crore as loans from the Centre under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIPB), he added.
