Chennai, May 7 (UNI) Having essayed their ''latest roles'' as campaigners for political parties, Kollywood stars called 'pack up' with the stage set for polls to the Tamil Nadu Assembly tomorrow.

They might not have taken a direct plunge into politics or launched their own political outfits, but film stars have been part and parcel of the political scenario of the state.

When it is election time, their presence is more visible with the political parties roping them in for a 'handsome' amount to add glitter to the campaign.

The parties even go to the extent of making film stars MPs or MLAs by giving them tickets to the Lok Sabha or Assembly polls or nominating them to the Rajya Sabha.

While Tamil superstar Rajnikanth refrained from supporting any political party openly this time, some of the other popular actors made a 'fast buck' by campaigning for the two rival fronts -- AIADMK and DMK.

After MGR and NTR, Vijaykanth launched the 'Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam' and is testing his fortunes by contesting in all the 234 seats.

But certainly, the presence of actors has added the extra bit of 'star value' to the campaign to woo the voters.

Leading the pack was popular actress Simran, who played a 'stellar' role for the ruling AIADMK, whose Supremo J Jayalalithaa herself was a leading actress of yesteryears. Celebrated Kollywood couple Sarathkumar and Radhika were also the star campaigners apart from Simran.
