Nitish, Modi take oath as MLC
Patna, May 7 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, besides nine other newly elected members of Bihar's upper chamber, today took oath as Members of Legislative Council (MLCs).
Acting Chairman of the Legislative Council Prof Arun Kumar administered the oath to the newly elected members.
All these members were declared unopposed on March 20.
Talking to newspersons after the oath-taking ceremony, the Chief Minister described his entry into the council as constitutional obligation and said that there was nothing curious about it.
''I will resign my Nalanda Lok Sabha seat during my visit to New Delhi on the 13 or 14 of this month,'' he added.
Former state BJP president and eminent lawyer Tarakant Jha took oath in Maithili.
Speaker of the Bihar Assembly Udai Narain Chaudhary, several ministers and a large number of MLAs and MLCs were present on the occasion.
Others who took oath of membership of state legislative council included Agriculture Minister Naredra Singh, Water Resources Minister Ramashray Prasad Singh, Nagmany (JD(U)), Baleshwar Singh Bharti (BJP), Udai Narain Rai, Bhim Singh (RJD), Chandan Bagchi (Congress) and Sanjay Singh (LJP).
