MP Govt earns 817 crore from mineral resources

Bhopal, May 7 : The Madhya Pradesh government has earned Rs 817 crore revenue from its mineral resources during 2005-06, registering an increase of 11.35 per cent from the previous year.

The government had earned Rs 733.72 crore revenue from minerals resources in 2004-05.

The state government earned Rs 568 crore from coal, Rs 131 crore from limestone and Rs. 28 crore from other major minerals like copper, manganese, rock phosphate etc.

Besides, Rs 90 crore revenue was earned from other minor minerals such as morram, sand and concrete, an official release said here yesterday today.

The government received most revenue, around Rs 347 crore, from Sidhi district, while it received Rs 97 crore from Annuppur, Rs 46 crore from Satna, Rs 45 crore from Chhindwara, from Rs 37 crore from Shahdol, Rs 31 crore each from Rewa and Katni, Rs 30 crore from Betul, Rs 26 crore from Neemuch, Rs 17 crore from Umaria and Rs 9 crore from Damoh.

A task force committee headed by the Collectors has been formed in all the districts with a view to check illegal excavation and transportation of minerals.

The committees are carrying out surprise inspections of mining areas. A target to earn Rs 900 crore revenue from the minerals in the state during the present financial year has been fixed, the release added.
