K'taka Information Dept to be modernised

Mysore, May 7 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has taken up a project to modernise the Department of Information within two years, Department Director N R Vishu Kumar informed today.

Participating in a meet-the-press programme, organised by the Mysore District Journalists Association here, he said the Centre would advance a loan of Rs five crore for the Rs seven crore project. The project would enable the Department to send news item and other materials to newspapers through internet, bidding adieu to the age-old system of distributing press packets to newspaper offices.

Mr Kumar sought the coordination of mediapersons to streamline the entire Information Department.

Referring to giving advertisement in small and medium newspapers, he said the State Government intended to help small and medium newspapers by releasing advertisements on a rotation basis to those who have registered their names in the media list.
