Jaya misusing welfare schemes: Vasan

Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu May 7 : Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation G K Vasan today alleged that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was betraying the people of the state by misusing welfare schemes meant for the poor, the downtrodden and toiling masses.

While canvassing for the Congress candidate D Sudarsanam, contesting from Poonamali constituency here, he alleged that the AIADMK was hand-in-glove with the BJP and scuttling the schemes envisaged by the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) regime.

Mr Vasan said the Centre had been planning and investing huge sums for the development of the state.

He alleged that the State Government had not submitted an account for Rs 1,000 crore given by the Centre for tsunami relief so far.

He appealed to the electorate to remove the dictatorial AIADMK regime-led by Ms Jayalalithaa.

Congress General Secretary Veerappa Moily, were among others, who attended the meeting.
