Five passengers killed in collision

Bijapur, May 7 : Five people, including two women, were killed and another 25 seriously injured when a private luxury bus collided with a truck near Golsangi crossing on National Highway number 13 this morning.

According to police, the private bus was on its way to Bijapur from Bangalore when the mishap occurred. The incident took place at around 0700 hrs.

While the victims of the mishap are yet to be identified, all the injured have been rushed to district hospital in Bijapur and condition of three of them was stated to be critical, the soruces said.

Top police officials including the Bijapur District Superintendent of Police have rushed to the scene immediately after the incident and supervised the rescue operations. The traffic at the national highway was closed few hours due to the incident, the sources added.
