Dempo humbles Salgaocar by 5-2

Margao, May 7 (UNI) Riding on the brace by Renty Martin and Robert Mendes Silva (Beto), defending champions Dempo SC rallied from behind gallantly to humble former champions Salgaocar Sports Club by 5-2 and gained full points in the second leg of ONGC Cup National Football League champions match being played here under floodlight at Nehru Stadium Fatorda tonight.

For Dempo, goals came through Renty Martin in the 35th and 91st minutes, Robert Mendes Silva (Beto) in the 47th and 52nd minutes and Clifford Miranda in the 94th minute. While Salgoacar's goal came in the 10th minute through Samson Singh and through Bruno Oliveira in the 77th minute.

With this win, Dempo jumped to the third spot with 23 points from 15 outings, registering six wins and 5 draws and relegating JCT with 22 points and Mohan Bagan 21 to 4th and 5th place.

Relegation threaten Salgaocar remained with same 11 points at the bottom with 14 outings.

Dempo's Beto was adjudged as the man of the match for his fine performnce.
