BDO of Kumarganj missing since yesterday

Balurghat, May 7 (UNI) Deputy Election Commissioner Anand Kumar today met Observors, District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police and officials of central paramilitary forces to discuss the pre-poll situation this evening.

Mr Kumar said he was astonished to learn that the BDO of Kumarganj block had been missing since last night, adding that he had learnt about this during the press meet and had referred the case to the District Magistrate(DM).

However, the DM of South Dinajpur revealed that last night the Returning Officer of Kumarganj filed a missing diary in Kumarganj police station.

Superintendent of Police Barun Mallik said Ananda Mohan Sarkar, the BDO of Kumarganj, told his driver after the meeting with the DM at Balurghat that he was going to Gangarampur for an important meeting by bus after which he would call him to return to Patiram.

The driver got panicked when he did not call up and informed other staff of the BDO office, who contacted the high officials of the district.

The DM said the administration had already informed his house in Kaliachak in Malda District. His brother Ujjal Sarkar arrived at Kumarganj after hearing the news.

Meanwhile, Congress Candidate of Balurghat constituency Tapan Kanti Dev complained to Deputy Election Commissioner Anand Kumar that some BJP camps were still within 200 meters off the polling booths.
