4 girls drown in well

Madurai, May 7 (UNI) Four girls, three of them teenagers drowned in a farm well at Pachaikoppanpatti of this district today.

Police said the girls were trying to learning swimming at the well, which had decript steps. The tragedy occurred when one of the girls slipped into the deeper side of the well and others attempted to rescue her.

A girl, keeping watch on their clothes, rushed to inform the villagers who fished out the bodies, which were later sent to the Thirumangalam Government Hospital for post-mortem.

The victims were identified as S Nithya (13), J Suguna (13), E Sivaranjani (11), all students of a private school at Santhangudi and M Jayalakshmi (13), a school drop out.
