Trade Unionist Somu dead

Chennai, May 6 (UNI) Veteran trade union leader and CPI leader K S Somu died at Karur last night after a brief illness.

He was 85.

He is survived by a son and a daughter.

Tamil Nadu State CPI secretary T Pandiyan in a statement here today recalled Somu's services to the working class as well as the party as a whole. He conveyed his condolences to the family members of Somu.

K Vaidhyanathan, Vice-President, Tamil Nadu state unit of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) also condoled the death.

In a statement, Mr Vaidhyanathan said Somu was in the CPI and the AITUC for the last 60 years and his death was a big loss to the trade union movement as well to the working class.
