Singapore's ruling party wins majority in election
SINGAPORE, May 6 (Reuters) Singapore's People's Action Party (PAP), which has ruled the city-state since independence in 1965, won more than half the seats in parliament, the elections department said today.
Today's parliamentary election was the first real test of popularity for Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
The PAP was denied a walkover victory for the first time in 18 years when opposition parties fielded candidates for 47 of the 84 seats.
