SAD (Amritsar) forms 3-member panel for poll alliances

Fatehgarh Sahib, May 6 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) headed by Simranjit Singh Maan, today decided it was open to poll alliances with ''like minded parties'' in order to defeat the ruling Congress and the SAD-BJP in the next assembly elections due in February next year.

This decision was taken at the Party's Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting, held at Quila Harnam Singh village in this district today. Mr Maan chaired the meeting.

Later addressing mediapersons he said that his party would go for poll tie-ups with like minded parties as ''the people of Punjab are against the policies of the Congress and the SAD-BJP''.

He said that it was decided in the meeting to adopt a ''tough stand'' against Congress and SAD-BJP to defeat these parties in next assembly polls..

He said that a three members committee comprising Charan Singh Lohara, Jogmohan Singh and Ram Singh had been constituted, which would initiate talks for alliances with other parties.
