Pressure groups to organise programmes against ADB
Hyderabad, May 6 (UNI) People's Forum Against ADB, a coalition of over 100 organisations from different parts of Asia and world, today resolved to take the message of the Hyderabad Pledge'that they would take up programmes to halt the intrusion of International Financial Institutions (IFIs) and demilitarization, to other parts of India and Asia.
The Forum which organised various protest programmes in the wake of the 39th Annual Meeting of Board of Governors of Asian Development Bank concluded its activities with the Pledge to support peoples movements across Asia, in their efforts to reclaim democracy, sovereignity and self-determination.
Forum coordinator Soparna Lahiri said that Forum resolved to strive for democratising the state so that it serves and responds to the aspirations and priorities of its people.
He said the Forum came to Hyderabad with a mission to expose the ADB and they have accomplished it.
National Hawkers Federation leader Shaktiman Ghosh of West Bengal said the work plan from Hyderabad includes strengthening peoples rights to environmental and livelihood resources.
Civil Society Inititive leader Jiten of Manipur said IFIs have a specific plan for North-East of India. These institutions start their projects with the help of military. The local people's opinion was not taken into consideration, he pointed out.
