Medical commission to check doping soon

Ranchi, May 6 (UNI) The Jharkhand Olympic Association (JOA) will soon set up a medical commission to check doping among the athletes and other sportspersons of the state.

Addresssing a press conference here today, JOA secretary general S M Hashmi said the five-member commission would be constituted within a fortnight.

''The commission, with a senior JOA official as its convenor and five reputed doctors as members, will visit the venues of various sports events in the state to collect random blood and urine samples of the participants. It will also conduct doping awareness programmes for different sports associations in the state.'' Mr Hashmi said a team led by the head of medical commission of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Dr Manmohan Singh would also visit Jharkhand on June 25 to participate in a workshop for coaches with emphasis on doping menace.
