Dalit girl sets herself on fire

Hardwar, May 6 (UNI) A Dalit girl set herself afire after she was slapped and rebuked by the headmaster and the class teacher of her school for scoring poor marks in examinations.

The girl poured kerosene and set herself on fire after the headmaster, Om Pal Singh, and her class teacher, Vijay Pal, rebuked and slapped her for faring badly in exams. Hearing her screams, her mother, father and neighbours rushed her to Manglaur hospital, where her condition is stated to be serious, police said.

The girl is studying in class 6th at junior high school in Libberhedi.

Police said a case has been registered against the headmaster and the class teacher, who are at large.
