Big fire in lubricating godown

Kolkata, May 6 (UNI) A devastating fire broke out in a lubricating godown at Maheshtala in North 24 Parganas district this evening causing heavy damage to property.

State Minister Pratim Chatterjee said 24 fire engines were at work to douse the blaze, the reason of which was yet to be ascertained.

He said the situation was under control to some extent and there were no reports of any casualty so far.

Official sources said the fire was noticed at around 1730 hours and soon it spread to engulf the godown, located very close to several small factories.

Director of Fire Brigade Gopal Bhattacharjee rushed to the spot to personally oversee the fire fighting.
