Airtel launches mobile services in Manipur
Imphal, May 6 (UNI) Telecom major, Bharti Airtel Ltd (formerly known as Bharti Tele-Ventues Ltd), today officially launched its mobile services in Manipur.
Initially, only the capital city will be covered. Services will be extended to other parts of the state with special focus on National Highway, Bharti Airtel Ltd Chief Operating Officer (COO) Atul Chaturvedi said.
Mobile services started three years ago but were banned in the North East, Manipur Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh said.
''We should welcome the private parties in Manipur,'' he said.
Mobile services increase effectiveness and efficiency in the service sectors, he added.
The COO said soon Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh will also be covered by the service provider. Fixed wireless phone will be started and PCOs will be opened in the state, he added.
