12 child labourers freed
Bhadohi, May 6 (UNI) The district administration today raided a carpet unit in the district and freed 12 child labourers from West Bengal.
The raid, made on a tip-off, was conducted jointly by district and labour department officials at Kazipur locality.
The rescued children, identified as Qasim, Farooq, Mobin, Haroon, Anwar, Sirajul, Abul, Shamim, Nusrul, Jiaul, Bablu and Noorul have been shifted to a juvenile home.
All the minors are said to be below 14 years of age.
Official sources said they had been working as bonded labourers without pay for a long time. A Bihar-based labour contractor had brought them to Bhadohi.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the unit owner Munawwar Ali, who is absconding.
Bhadohi is famous for its carpet industry comprising a large number of small and large export units.
