Woman killed for practicing witchcraft

Bhubaneswar, May 5 (UNI) A tribal youth killed his sister-in-law suspecting her to be practicing witchcraft to harm his children.

Police said Raghunath Purty,34, of Kalukhaman village, under Rugudi Panchayat of Jashipur block, killed his brother's wife on Monday on the belief that she was exercising some magical powers, which led his daughters to suffer from fever recently.

The youth initially decided to perform some special rituals to ward off the evil spirit, but changed his plan and stabbed his brother's wife Raibari to death when she came to his house.

On receipt of information from the Ward member, Jashipur police arrived at the village and arrested Raghunath under section 302 IPC and registered a case against him.
