Two murder accused acquitted

Mumbai, May 5 (UNI) A local court today acquitted two accused in the murder of an elderly couple at Kandivli in North Mumbai during 2001.

Additional Sessions Judge S B Gaikwad acquitted Sunil Motiram Kanojia and Kantilal Manilal Rathod on the grounds that the prosecution had failed to prove any evidene against the accused including 'panch' statement and finger prints.

According to the prosecution, Shankar Gajwani (68) and Kamini Gajwani (63) were allegedly murdered on September 3, 2001, in broad day light by the duo. Cash and gold Worth over Rs 48,000 were taken away after committing the crime.

On the basis of the complaint registered by victim's daughter Rekha and the statement of a tea vendor in front of their apartment, police arrested them from Boriwali bus station on September four while they were leaving for Gujarat.
