Section 144 clamped to prevent fishing

Shillong, May 5 (UNI) Section 144 Cr P C has been promulgated in Sohra sub-division to prevent wanton killing of fish in their breeding season.

The order prohibits killing of fishes by poisoning, blasting and using chemicals in the rivers and streams within the Sohra civil sub-division.

''Any one found violating this proclamation will be dealt with in accordance to the provision of law presently in force. This order will come into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders,'' a statement from the office of the Sub - Divisional Magistrate said here today.

Fishing during the breeding season, which is usually from May to August, puts serious pressure on the fish population.
