Rahul charges UP govt with laxity in Rae Bareli development

Written by: Staff

Rae Bareli, UP, May 5 (UNI) Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi today reiterated his charge that the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led Uttar Pradesh government had failed to usher in development in Rae Bareli.

Talking to newspersons here, he claimed any development in the segment had only been brought about by the central government.

On the dance and music show that preceded Congress president Sonia Gandhi's arrival at Maharajganj to address an election meeting yesterday, he maintained it was held by junior party activists without the permission of organisers.

''We are looking into the matter,'' he added.

When asked if the presence of several top SP leaders in Rae Bareli would affect the May 8 bypoll, Rahul observed the mood of the people was palpable, and in favour of his party.

Commenting on electioneering in the high profile constituency, the Congress leader opined it was a good feeling. ''I am visiting new places and meeting people.'' On low voting percentage in some places, Rahul asserted it was because some polling centres were far off from dwellings of people.

Meanwhile, Priyanka Vadra, whom the Congress chief made her election agent, arrived in Rae Bareli ahead of the bypoll.

Ms Gandhi is seeking re-election to the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat after she resigned from the segment over post of profit controversy.
