Pune outperforms Mumbai in IT Export
Pune, May 5 (UNI) Pune achieved a significant landmark by outperforming Mumbai on the Information Technology expressway in exports with IT and IT enabled services (ITeS) in 2005-2006 registering a turnover of Rs 9,100 crore as against Mumbai's Rs 7,300 crore.
Software Technology Park of India (Maharashtra) Director P Venugopal told reporters here yesterday that Pune emerged second to Hyderabad registering 48 per cent growth from Rs 6,150 crore in 2004-2005 to the current Rs 9,100 crore, he said.
Declaring the results for 2005-06, Venugopal said for the third consecutive year, Pune has registered three digit growth in the number of IT firms getting enrolled. In 2005-06, there were 112 firms in comparison with 109 and 107 in 2004-05 and 2003-04 respectively.
''The new companies have collectively given a manpower projection of 30,856 workers in the next five years, but we feel these are conservative estimates as our experience has shown that companies take barely two years to meet the projection, considering the growth in the business'', he informed.
