Public participation invited for DDP implementation

Shimla, May 5 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today invited public participation for the implementation of the Desert Development Project (DDP) in the tribal areas of the state.

Talking to a deputation of watershed committee of Pooh Sub-Division of Kinnaur district that called on him here, he said the government had launched a number of programmes with assistance from centre to make the desert areas of the tribal belts green and increase the cultivation area.

Mr Singh said several projects for the development of of these areas were being implemented in all the desert areas, including Pooh sub division of district Kinnaur and Spiti Sub Division of Lahaul and Spiti district, where cultivable land was meager.

The watershed development projects had helped in increasing the green area and the people were able to cultivate cash crops for which necessary infrastructure had been created under such programmes, he said.
