Postal ballot for govt servants on poll duty

Chennai, May 5 (UNI) Government servants on election duty could cast their votes by postal ballot, Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta said today.

In a release here, he said the voters on election duty, who have applied for issue of postal ballot in Form-12, could collect the same in person or by post from the Returning Officer (RO), at least three days before the date of poll.

After exercising their franchise, the postal ballot paper may be returned to the respective ROs of the Assembly constituency so as to reach him not later than 0800 hrs on May 11, when counting of votes are taken up.

''Drop box facility is also available in all ROs's office. On no account should it be cast in any box kept elsewhere,'' he said adding if any voter on election duty opted to send the postal ballot paper through normal pre-paid postal service, such facility could also be utilised by the government servants.
