PM's wife visits Suryanarayan's widow

Hyderabad, May 5 (UNI) Ms Gursharan Kaur, wife of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, today visited ailing Manjula, wife of K Suryanarayana who was killed by the Taliban in Afghanisthan.

She inquired about Manjula's condition and her current status at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG) this morning.

Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, Chief of Gastroenterology, AIG, explained the sequence of events and the serious clinical status in which Manjula was admitted with corrosive injuries to her esophagus and stomach. Ms Kaur also saw the CAT scan pictures of the patient.

She then talked to Manjula, offered her condolences and reassured her. Mrs Singh then spoke to the parents and brother of Manjula and told them not to lose hope and wished a fast recovery for the patient. She complimented the hospital doctors for the care and facilities.

Manjula is still in the Gastrointestinal Intensive Care and is being fed by IV lines. She is showing marginal improvement. Her vital parameters are being carefully monitored, said a hospital release.

The damage to her food pipe and stomach are being treated with medication. Endoscopic therapy is planned once she comes out of this present state, the release added.
