Naushad passes away

Mumbai, May 5 (UNI) Legendary music director Naushad, who composed music for classics like Baiju Bawra and Mughal-e-Azam, passed away at Nanavati hospital here this morning.

Naushad, 86, died at 0930 hrs, sources said.

He was admitted to the Nanavati hospital a few days ago for treatment of a heart problem, the sources said.

The veteran composer's body will be taken to his Carter road residence in Bandra before being laid to rest.

Naushad's last film as a music composer was Akbar Khan's Taj Mahal which was released early this year and recently premiered in Pakistan.

Mughal-e-Azam was re-released last year and also screened in Pakistan.

Naushad's love for music brought him to Mumbai in the 1930s and he spent more than five decades in the music industry.
