MCD official caught with bribe: CBI

New Delhi, May 5 (UNI) An Assistant Sanitary Inspector of Municipal Corporation of Delhi has been arrested for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000 bribe from a shopkeeper, the CBI said today.

The official, posted at Madangir, had told the complainant that no action would be taken against him for violations if he paid the bribe.

The shopkeeper was issued a warning notice on April 28 under the MCD Act, 1957, for running his trade without valid license and depositing building materials etc. in front of his shop, thereby causing obstruction in MCD works.

According to a CBI spokesman, the official was caught red handed while accepting the bribe following a complaint by the shopkeeper.

Searches at his residential premises in Nangloi led to the recovery of Rs 35,000 in cash and one car worth Rs 2.5 lakh.

Documents relating to immovable property and bank accounts etc.

found during the searches are under scrutiny by CBI, he said.
