File affidavit on power generation augmenting efforts: SC
New Delhi, May 5 (UNI) The Supreme Court has directed the Union Government and Delhi government to file an affidavit within two weeks detailing the efforts being made by the authorities to augment power generation to overcome the current power crisis in the capital.
A bench comprising Mrs. Justice Ruma Pal and Mr. Justice Dalveer Bhandari issued the directions during the hearing of a petition seeking directions to the state to take appropriate and quick steps to enhance power generation to meet the rising summer demand.
The petitioner has also sought directions to the authorities to make theft of power a cognisable offence.
At present, the police cannot take any action without a written complaint by the distribution company and this enables the power thief to escape the clutches of law due to time lapse in detection and action.
The Court also directed the government to inform it about what further steps are being taken to improve the supply of power in the capital.
Delhi has been facing severe power crisis and the crisis has deepened further with the rise in mercury.
The temperature has already croosed 40 deg C mark in the capital.
