EC recalls Jalpaiguri observer, after left's complaints
Kolkata, May 5 (UNI) The Election Commission today recalled Mr Ashok Srivastava, Expenditure Observer for Jalpaiguri district, following complaints by the ruling Left Front.
Sources in the Election Office said Mr Srivastava was relieved of his responsibility removed after the EC accepted the left's compalints that the observer had exceeded his limits to issue directives on his own.
With his removal, coming three days ahead of the fifth phase polling in the state, altogether five observers had so far been recalled by the comission.
Earlier, Left Front Chairman Biman Bose said some of the Observers were going beyond their limits, charging them with passing orders on their own, instead of adhering to the EC guidelines.
Mr Bose had specifically singled out Mr Srivastava in this connection.
