CRPF jawan commits suicide

Srinagar, May 5 : A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan committed suicide after he was allegedly denied permission to proceed to his hometown in a private vehicle, official sources said today.

Ravi Kumar of the CRPF's 67 battalion fired upon himself with his service weapon at Karan Nagar yesterday, they added.

He succumbed to his wounds later.

The sources said Ravi Kumar was to proceed on leave for his wedding.

Yesterday, he sought the permission of his superiors to proceed to his hometown in a private vehicle as the CRPF convoy was scheduled to leave the next day, they added.

However, Ravi Kumar was allegedly denied the permission for security reasons which prompted him to take this extreme step, the sources said.
