Bardhan warns against economic neo-liberalisation

Bhopal, May 5 (UNI) CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan today declared that any attempt by the Centre to amend labour laws in the name of ''economic neo-liberalisation'' would not be allowed to succeed.

''Labour organisations across India should girdle up their loins and declare their unity against any such move,'' he said here at a function organised by the All-India Bank Employees Union's Madhya Pradesh unit to mark the body's diamond jubilee year.

Alleging that the predecessor NDA regime encouraged capitalism under the garb of liberalisation, Mr Bardhan added that the UPA government displayed restraint on liberalisation policies -- but only for a year.

''Left parties are often told that the Centre cannot ignore us as we extend outside support but the truth is that the Government is not our servant. Besides, we cannot bring down the UPA government and immediately substitute it with another regime,'' said the AITUC Vice-President.
